Actor Anthony Valentine, known for his roles on television, has died aged 76, his agent said.

Also a writer and director, he is best remembered for his parts in television, theatre and film.

He died peacefully on Wednesday morning, his agent Derek Webster said.

Valentine played Toby Meres in Callan and Major Mohn in Colditz, and also appeared in the West End.

He met English actress Susan Skipper on the TV show Raffles and they got married in 1982.

She said: "Tony was my best friend and it was a privilege to know, love and care for him."

In 2012 Valentine was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

In spite of this diagnosis his sense of humour never failed him and he continued to live a full and happy life, Mr Webster said.
