I took a sabbatical from this blog to concentrate on the build-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and I can now attest that the inevitable downside of writing about the athletic endeavours of others and not enough time doing any yourself is the impact on your waistline. My own personal legacy of the Games is woefully being two dress sizes bigger.

As I rediscover my love for leisure cycling - and wean myself off a daily diet of Kettle Chips and Netflix - I'll be posting regular updates including interviews and tips from well known riders, a guide to the best gadgets, news nuggets and issue-led talking points.

If there are any topics you would like me to cover, I'd love to hear from you. You can email me at susan.swarbrick@heraldandtimes.co.uk and follow me on Twitter at @SusanSwarbrick
