Style Icon: Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen - racer, motorcycle enthusiast and movie star - remains after all this time the undisputed king of cool.  Known for his love of clean cut masculinity, McQueen's style is timeless, transcending generations. With a style not bound by class or location, McQueen has become an icon not just for his work in cinema but for his effortless and instantly recognisable dress sense. From a troubled childhood to an illustrious military career, McQueen never let his past define him, instead becoming a man of action both on and off the screen. Though he was notoriously difficult to work with, he made time in his life for his true passions - charity work and racing. As one of the most in demand stars of the day, McQueen could pick and choose the roles he wanted.  From The Great Escape to Bullitt, McQueen quickly became known for his classic style pieces. While it would be east to say Steve McQueen is one of the all time great vintage style icons, it's by no far stretch where you could say he's one of the world's best-known dressers. His sartorial style was never forced, instead with a more relaxed masculine look. While typically cited as a male style icon, there's no reason not to take style cues from McQueen's back catalogue of iconic looks. The real statement piece to pull together any McQueen inspired look is of course a Belstaff waxed jacket. A black belted race master truly captures his everlasting style and a true heritage piece. Pair this with a loose classic fit white tee (H&M makes light and durable tops perfect for this) and some dark straight cut Wrangler jeans.

Style Icon: Paloma Faith

Her debut album "Do you want the truth or something beautiful" went double platinum and she quickly became a style icon with her quirky vintage inspired wardrobe. A style extrovert, Faith continues to wow with her imaginative and eclectic wardrobe, channelling everyone from Betty Page to Grace Jones.

Style Icon: Tilda Swinton

Words like androgynous and ethereal often get bandied about but fail to truly capture Swinton's minimalist elegance. Model, muse and Oscar winner, Swinton is the kind of woman that commands a real presence and is never one to let her wardrobe wear her.

Style Icon: Cara Delevingne

With a collaboration with Mulberry and a fresh season of walking for some of the world's biggest fashion shows under her belt, Cara Delevingne continues to be one of the most fascinating models working in the fashion industry today.

Style Icon: Solange

Yes. That Knowles. Beyoncé may be the reigning Queen of pop, yet it's her sister Solange who's on constant rotation on every best dressed list going. Vogue even asked her for a monthly photo diary because that's the thing about Solange. She nails it every damn time.

Style Icon: Ingrid Bergman

Refusing to buy in to Hollywood's narrow minded idea of beauty (she famously refused to pluck her eyebrows or cap her teeth), Bergman had a classic androgynous style embodying a more modern women. From tailored suits paired with sheer scarves and wide brimmed hats to classic khaki trench coats, pencil skirts cut just below the knee and statement necklaces, Bergman has become as known for her classic sense of style as she was for her acting.

Style Icon: Dolly Parton

While classic Dolly was very much a product of her upbringing - a small town country girl from Tennessee with her high-waisted jeans, gold hoop earrings and tied up gingham shirts that wouldn't look out of place on any Rockabilly chick today - she always yearned for something bigger.
