THIS invocation of junior gang life in the East End of Glasgow won artist and poet Rosaleen Orr joint first prize in the inaugural McCash Scots Poetry Competition to be run jointly by The Herald and Glasgow University.

Now, a decade later, she has used the same title for a blackly comic thriller, also set in Glasgow.

UP ROYSTONHILL

Up Roystonhill where the foxes cry

Rab Tam Toalie Millsie and Sky

Kings of the castle on the lookout

As grey girners girn and blackbirds shout

As the smirr comes on and the jackdaws gab

Sky Tam Toalie Millsie and Rab

Singing along in the snell half dark

As the vans ding dong and the wild dogs bark

As the lights come on and the hoolet kills

Sky Rab and Tam Toalie and Mills

Millsie Toalie Sky Rab and Tam

Keeking down on the traffic jam

Let wee minging moggies eat their ice cream
