Japanese gaming firm Nintendo, which makes Super Mario and Pokemon video games, has reported a 10.2 billion yen (£60.3 million) profit for the nine months to December.

That was down 30% from a year earlier following poorer than expected sales of its Wii U console.

Senior executives said they will take a pay cut for five months starting in February to take responsibility for the poor performance.

President Satoru Iwata is taking a 50% cut with other directors seeing their wages dropping by between 20% and 30%.

Nintendo cut annual sales forecasts for both the Wii U and the handheld 3DS.
