United Auctions held their first show and sale of suckled calves at Stirling on Monday. Heifers sold to a top of 259.2p per kg and an average of 226.5p (+0.1p on the year), while 711 bullocks peaked at 437.5p for the champion and levelled at 233.4p (-9.9p).
The firm also sold 7816 store and feeding sheep. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Texels to £65 and averaged £52.88 (-75p on the week); Suffolks £61.50 and £53.20 (-£2.67); Mules £54.50 and £49.65 (+56p); Blackfaces £58 and £39.49 (-86p).
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 2980 prime lambs in Lanark on Monday to a top of £82 per head and 177.3p per kg to average 150.8p (-0.1p).
The 886 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £128.50 for Texels and £66.50 for Blackfaces.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2839 prime lambs at Ayr on Monday to a top of £86 and 175.6p to average 144.1p (-3.7p).
There were also 1898 cast sheep forward, which was the largest show of ewes ever seen at the centre, that sold to £135 for Texels and £61.50 for Blackfaces.
The firm went on to sell 13 prime heifers at the same venue yesterday to a top of £1287 per head and 234p per kg to average £1179.78 and 217.7p, while 4 prime bullocks peaked at £1266 and 211p to level at £1179.81 and 202.1p.
In the rough ring 67 beef cows averaged 125.8p and 174 dairy cows levelled at 86.5p. Nine bulls averaged 105p.
There were also 17 dairy cattle forward that were a plainer show for quality and sold to £1550 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1101.
Wallets Marts sold 1945 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £80 and 179.5p to average 147.7p (-2.8p).
The 515 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £81 for Texels, £66 for Mules and £59 for Blackfaces.
