Scottish Equity Partners makes key appointments
VENTURE capital firm Scottish Equity Partners (SEP), has strengthened its investment and operational teams with three senior appointments, including two new partners.
The company, which specialises in investing in growing technology firms, has made Tony Robison a partner. Mr Robison joined SEP in 2011, and is primarily focused on portfolio management and deal support and works closely with portfolio companies.
Keith Davidson has also been appointed as a partner. He has been working with SEP since 2015, having spent the previous decade in the private equity industry. He focuses on new growth capital investments across the information technology sector.
Meanwhile, Sarah Roughead has joined SEP as director of fund reporting with responsibility for reporting and accounting across all funds under management. She was previously head of the private equity audit team at KPMG in London.
Other new recruits include Verena Rathgeber, principal, focused on renewable energy investments and Tim Ankers, investment analyst who joined the firm from Deutsche Bank.
Property firm gears up for rates changes
PROPERTY agent Bilfinger GVA has tasked senior director Gordon Martin with leading its Scottish team ahead of the April 2017 general revaluation.
Mr Martin will take charge of a dedicated seven-strong business rates team in Scotland with immediate effect as they prepare for the expected adjustment to the rateable values of all non-domestic property in Scotland.
With the largest number of appeals lodged in the 2010 revaluation, Bilfinger GVA retains clients such as Edinburgh Airport, the Scottish Government, RBS, Pinsent Masons and the Ministry of Defence.
Edinburgh-based Mr Martin, who is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Rating Surveyors Association, is stepping up to the role after nine years within Bilfinger GVA.
Keith Aitken, regional senior director at Bilfinger GVA in Scotland, said the rating team was well prepared for the 2017 revaluation which he said represented a critical period for businesses across Scotland.
He added that he believed the appointment of Gordon Martin would provide clients with a trusted and very experienced adviser they could rely on for expert advice.
Partners for Macroberts
LAW firm MacRoberts has promoted one new partner and hired a new external partner to in its construction group.
David Wilson, who has been with MacRoberts for 16 years, was previously a director within the construction group. Mr Wilson will be based in Glasgow, but will also work across the firm’s other offices in Edinburgh and Dundee.
Meanwhile Gavin Thomson joins MacRoberts from Pinsent Masons. He qualified as a solicitor in 2001, and spent 14 years at MacRoberts rising to the position of senior associate. Mr Thomson will be based in Edinburgh, but will also work from Glasgow and Dundee.
John Macmillan, managing partner at MacRoberts said: “MacRoberts is a recognised leader in construction law with very strong links to the construction sector. The promotion of David and the return of Gavin is great news for the firm and our clients. They add yet further talent and experience to our construction team at partner level.”
