A NEW housing development in the village of Winchburgh, West Lothian has been named the best in Scotland.
The picturesque Devon Lane development has led Stewart Milne Homes to take home the Development of the Year prize, supported by Scotland’s Homes, at The Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2016.
The event, held in association with Burness Paull, saw hundreds of figures from across the house building and development industry gather at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow last night hosted by comedian and broadcaster Des Clarke.
Scott Peterkin, Partner, Burness Paull said: “Year on year the Herald Property Awards in association with Burness Paull showcase the dynamism and enthusiasm of the people that work in our property development industry and the high quality homes and commercial buildings they deliver. 2016 is no different. In every category we have seen fantastic examples of market leading developments, from small to large scale. The judging process is rigorous and thorough and it was difficult to choose the winners with such an array of high quality people and products. This is an industry to be proud of and our congratulations go to all the winners.”
Entries were received from all over the country from John O’Groats to Campbeltown and the judges spent several months travelling the country to compare each of the projects.
Big winners were Avant Homes who picked up two awards on the night, the Best Family Home for Developers Building More Than 50 Units sponsored by Peace Recruitment for ‘The Pendlebury’ and also the Property Team of the Year award, sponsored by Space and Time Media.
Chris Peace, managing director at Peace Recruitment offed his congratulations to Avant Homes, adding: “I would also like to congratulate all the other winners and finalists in what was another successful and enjoyable evening.”
Keith Benzie, client partner at Space & Time Media added: “Many congratulations to all the finalists and winners at this year’s Herald Property Awards. It was an excellent evening and we were delighted to sponsor the Property Team of the Year Award again this year. We’d like to congratulate Avant Homes on picking up this coveted award.”
Cruden Homes had an equally impressive night - taking home two awards and receiving a commendation in a third category.
The housebuilder won Affordable Housing Development of the Year, having teamed up with Wheatley Group and Glasgow Housing Association on the North Toryglen development.
It also came out on top in the Residential Sales Team of the Year, sponsored by Rettie.
Cruden also earned a commendation in the Best Housing Regeneration Project, sponsored by Scotland’s Towns Partnership, again teaming up with and Wheatley Group and Glasgow Housing Association, for the Kings View development.
A special judges’ award was presented to hub West Scotland for the Glasgow Women’s Library and also to the South Kintyre Development Trust for the regeneration of Cambeltown Town Hall.
Jennifer Paice, chief executive of SafeDeposits Scotland, said: “Letting teams are the vital link between tenant and property owner. A good letting team is crucial for smooth relations and Clan Gordon have shown that they have gone the extra mile in providing an exceptional, cost-effective service to both tenant and landlord alike. We’d like to congratulate them for their superior work over the last year and for winning this award.”

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
