HUNTER Boot, the upmarket footwear and clothing brand, has seen revenue rise by nearly 20 per cent to £113.7 million in its latest financial year amid strong growth in the US.

Sales in North America grew by 33 per cent in a year which saw a full year of trading for Edinburgh-based Hunter's London flagship store.

The period also saw the company a new store at Bicester Village and take steps to develop its e-commerce, IT and warehousing and distribution systems.

That came as underlying earnings dropped back to £14.1m from £15.6m the year before.

Hunter said its growth in the last three years had put it in a "very strong position", but conceded 2016 has "presented a challenging retail environment in general, particularly in North America.

Chief executive Vincent Wauters said: The measures we have put in place in 2016 will put us in a strong position going into 2017, as we continue to grow and realise the brand’s true potential.”
