HIGHLANDS-BASED Black Isle Brewing Co has landed a significant distribution boost after striking its first UK-wide retail deal.
The organic craft brewer’s flagship product, Black Isle Organic Blonde, will appear on the shelves of Majestic Wine’s 200-plus outlets across the UK. The beer, which Majestic will sell in 330ml format, is also available to buy from the retailer’s online store.
Black Isle’s beers are already sold in on and off trade outlets around the UK, with exports shipped to 15 countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Sweden, Russia and the US.
David Gladwin, who founded Black Isle in 1998, said: “It’s great for an organic beer to get a UK-wide listing with a retailer like Majestic.
“They recognise the growing demand for high-quality organic beer that offers genuine provenance and sustainability. We believe everywhere that sells beer should have at least one organic choice, and of course, we want that to be Black Isle.
“Our message is drink great beer and help the environment at the same time.”
Majestic buyer Beth Pearce added: “Black Isle is a fantastic independent craft brewer with very firm beliefs and principles. They care passionately about what they do.
“That’s something we admire greatly, not to mention the fact that their organic Blonde is an outstanding beer.
“We’re excited to be the first retailer to offer them a national sales platform and look forward to what the future will bring.”
Black Isle is located amid 130 acres of farm land, where a small amount of organic barley is cultivated for brewing. The farm provides the water for the brewery, as well as organic and biodynamic herbs and vegetables for visitors to the brewery, and for ingredients for the Black Isle Bar in Inverness. Only barley and hops grown on organic farms are used in its production process.
As well as Organic Blonde, its core range includes Yellowhammer Anytime IPA, Red Kite Amber Ale, Goldeneye Pale Ale and Goldfinch Gluten Free.
