ABERDEEN Asset Management has extended its sponsorship activities in women's golf by backing the niece of Tiger Woods.

Cheyenne Woods will become one of the fund manager's global golf ambassadors joining a stable which includes the likes of Colin Montgomerie, Catriona Matthew, Martin Laird, Paul Lawrie and Carly Booth.

The 24-year-old Ms Woods will carry the Aberdeen logo on her golf bags including at the Ladies Scottish Open, which the company also sponsors, at the Dundonald Links in Ayrshire next month.

Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, said the choice of a US based player will help raise awareness of the company across the Americas.

He said: "We are looking forward to welcoming Cheyenne Woods into our Aberdeen team.

"Our golf ambassadors act as extensions of us both on and off the course and we believe Cheyenne's outlook on the game and her ability to promote our brand globally make her a great pick."

Ms Woods said she admired Aberdeen Asset Management's commitment to growing the game of golf and she was looking forward to working with the team there.

Ms Woods turned professional in 2012 and has so far won two tournaments. She recently completed a course record tying score of 63 in the first round of the Manulife LPGA Classic at the Whistle Bear Golf Club in Ontario, Canada.

Her father Earl is the half-brother of Tiger Woods.
