Santander UK has confirmed the appointment of Nathan Bostock as its chief executive.

He joined the lender last month as deputy chief executive, and replaces Ana Botin, who will stay on the UK board in a non-executive capacity.

She became chairman of the parent Santander banking group earlier this month after her father Emilio Botin died.

Before joining the UK arm of Santander, Mr Bostock was finance director at Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was replaced by Ewen Stevenson. Mr Bostock had intended to leave RBS in 2011 to join Lloyds Banking Group, but reconsidered his decision. He has also served as finance director, among other roles, at Abbey National, where he worked between 2001 and 2009 and which became part of the Santander group.
