clydesdale Bank reinforces its food and drink foothold

CLYDESDALE Bank has renewed one strategic partnership and established another in moves designed to boost its presence in the Scottish food and drink sector.

The bank has renewed its relationship with Scotland Food and Drink, just days before the producers' body hosts its annual excellence awards on May 22.

And it has linked up with Scottish Bakers, with the partnership due to be formally launched at the trade body's annual conference and awards on May 16 and 17.

Those events are part of Clydesdale Bank's Business Week, which began on Monday and will see more than 250 customer-focused events held around its network of business and private banking centres.

Stuart McCallum, head of food and drink for Clydesdale Bank, said the bank's move to renew the partnership with Scotland Food and Drink will "allow us to support local, Scottish businesses in identifying further growth opportunities in foreign markets".

It comes as the food and drink sector aims to increase turnover by 65 per cent over the next decade, including doubling of exports.

James Withers, chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said: "The partnership we have developed over the last year with the Clydesdale Bank is a great fit as they share our ambitions to support business growth in our industry."

Alan Clarke, of Scottish Bakers, a stakeholder in Scotland Food & Drink, said: "This partnership enables us to encourage a large number of our members to take part in our events and initiatives, and the enthusiasm that bakers have shown is significant."
