FOOTFALL at Glasgow Fort has risen by 13 per cent since the addition of more restaurants and a cinema, according to its owner British Land.

The company said the increase seen in Glasgow over the six months to September 30 outperformed the 2.6 per cent growth it had seen across its portfolio.

Further extension of Glasgow Fort, including the opening of a Marks & Spencer superstore, is on course to complete next year while further planned retail and restaurant units have also been given consent at the shopping complex.

At Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh lettings to Primark, Fat Face and TK Maxx were signed. Restaurants including Simply Be and Ed's Diner have signed up to open their first outlets in Scotland while the £13 million leisure extension, which includes a seven- screen Odeon cinema, is close to completion.

British Land, which also owns Meadow Hall near Sheffield and the Teesside Shopping Park in the north east of England, said its underlying profit before tax in the six months rose more than six per cent from £146m to £155m. Occupancy across its portfolio, was up slightly at 98.6 per cent.
