FORT William-based biomass heating specialist HWEnergy has extended its reach into northern England in alliance with Pennine Biomass.

The pair are aiming for £1.5 million in sales in 2013.

Pennine will be the public face of the arrangement, dealing with new customers and will provide the fuel.

HWEnergy, meanwhile, will provide the design expertise for the boilers.

Bruno Berardelli, managing director of HWEnergy, said: "HWEnergy's established track record of 200 complex projects complete, combined with the locality of Pennine Biomass' six fuel supply depots located around the north of England, makes this offering quite unique in the marketplace."

HWEnergy was the first business in Scotland to sign up for the Renewable Heat Incentive, which gives owners of non-domestic properties using renewable technologies such as ground-source heat pumps and wood-chip boilers payments for the energy they produce.

The arrangement with Pennine, which has not seen any money change hands, will give it a head-start in breaking into the English market.

Mr Berardelli said: "With rising fossil fuel prices, and the introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive, biomass heat is quickly becoming a very attractive option for a wide range of sectors including rural farms and estates, schools, healthcare facilities and public sector buildings.

"Under this partnership we are now able to make biomass heat a realistic and attractive long-term option in the north of England, providing support for many years to come."

HWEnergy has provided biomass heating services since 2003. It currently has a turnover of around £5m a year and employs 50 people.

In 2009, it opened a new base in Fort William which serves as its main office, demonstration and training centre.

The company has a second office near Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales.

The service being offered by HWEnergy and Pennine Biomass includes the design, construction, operation, fuel supply and on-going service and maintenance of the system.

Edward Milbank, director at Pennine Biomass, said: "We are dedicated to making biomass heating work for our clients before, during and after installation.

"As the demand for biomass heating solutions in the north of England has grown rapidly in the past 18 months we have been looking at the most effective way of further expanding our resources to provide a fully comprehensive service to support the investments we have made in fuel delivery.

"It was important we found a partner that was able to support us in offering a whole package biomass heat solution, and with HWEnergy's experience as one of the oldest non-domestic biomass heat providers in the UK they were the natural choice."
