THE Scottish arm of building company ISG has won three contracts which are worth millions of pounds and stretches its order book into 2013.

The largest is a £4.1 million project for Dundee University to build an extension to the teaching facilities at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School.

The contractor, formed from the remnants of ROK Scotland when its parent company went into administration in November 2010, is also refurbishing around 1500 square metres of existing teaching, administration, IT and library areas in the 89-week development.

Andy Mallice, ISG's managing director for Scotland, said: "It is always good to pick up work and especially so as some of these are new clients.

"As a relatively new business in Scotland we have struggled to get work from the public sector in Scotland.

"So the Dundee contract really ticks the boxes of working in the education and health sectors.

"Until now around 90% of what we do has been in the private sector so we are delighted as it gives us more than a year's work which gives us security."

In addition ISG, which had a £70m turnover in Scotland during its first year of trading, is taking on two multimillion-pound office refurbishment projects.

At the Spectrum Building at 55 Blythswood Square in Glasgow it has been hired for 24 weeks by Orchard Street Investment Management to create a new reception area, improve accessibility and upgrade two floors to category A standard.

In Edinburgh ISG is working for Delancey overhauling the seven-storey Orchard Brae House.

Among the improvements there are a new café, improvements in the reception area and unoccupied commercial space being upgraded to category A.

Mr Mallice added: "These other projects are typical of what is happening in the commercial world at the moment. Offices are either being partitioned into smaller areas or opened up into open plan and refurbished rather than new places being built.

"For the Spectrum one it is good to get our name around the market in Glasgow as most of our work has been in other areas of the central belt.

"With Orchard Brae it is a job we've been tracking for a year and it started out as a much bigger project. We're hopeful on both of those we will get more work to refurbish other floors as there becomes a demand for office space."
