KIER Construction has won a £10 million contract to redevelop two Glasgow properties into high quality student accommodation.

The company, a division of Kier Group, has been appointed by Lysander Student Properties and Amber Infrastructure to carry out the projects in the city's west end.

It expects to complete work on Clifton House and Elderslie Street, which is underway now, in time for the start of the 2015/2016 academic year.

Brian McQuade, managing director for Kier Construction in Scotland and north-east England, said: "This project with Lysander Student Properties Limited is a fantastic opportunity for us to build on the expertise that we are developing in this sector, having completed several such developments in the last few years, including, most recently, the project in Dumbarton Road in Glasgow's Partick district.

"It will allow us to strengthen our relationship with local suppliers and contractors and is further evidence of Kier's commitment to Glasgow and the west of Scotland."

At Clifton House, Kier will provide a total of 213 bed spaces, comprising 142 single bed flats and 71 studio flats, while at Stewart House it is developing 51 studio flats.
