SCOTLAND'S largest cold-pressed rapeseed oil producer Mackintosh of Glendaveny is "delighted" to be entering the Northern Irish market for the first time after securing an extended order from Sainsbury's.

The Aberdeenshire-based firm's first gift pack of products is to retail in 10 stores in Northern Ireland and 32 in Scotland.

The £8 taster pack is being sold exclusively by the retailer in the run-up to Christmas and comprises four 100ml bottles, with pure cold pressed rapeseed oil, as well as garlic, lemon and jalapeno pepper versions.

Managing director Gregor Mackintosh, who founded the business in 2009, said: "We've been looking to enter the Northern Irish market for some time and are delighted that the increased order from Sainbury's has facilitated our introduction over the Irish Sea."

Rapeseed oil contains half the saturated fat of olive oil and ten times more Omega 3, and the deal comes as the producer is set to conclude its two-year £250,000 investment project at the end of this month.

This has led to better production and office facilities, and the installation of a new bottling line and storage tanks.

Mr Mackintosh added: "We are now in a position to compete with the biggest producers within the UK market. From day one it was my ambition to bring the business to this point."
