A software firm is planning to build a new training centre after reporting record sales and profits.

Sciencesoft, which provides reservoir modelling products for the oil and gas industry, intends to spend around £120,000 expanding its Glasgow headquarters.

That will create a suite for energy sector professionals to come from around the world and receive training on the company's growing range of products.

The investment comes after a record 2011 which saw turnover rise 40% to £2.3 million, with profits up 120% to £500,000.

William Wood, sales director and co-founder, said: "We have been employing more people and targeting new markets which has increased sales and profits.

"We are finding the more we grow the more training we need to do.

"The idea is if we tailor a bespoke training facility catering for up to 12 people at a time we can run courses throughout the year for big or small operators.

"The oil industry is global so people will travel big distances to do training."

Within three years Sciencesoft hopes to treble turnover and increase its staff numbers from the current 16 to more than 40.

It intends to recruit 10 new members of staff across training, sales and software development in the coming 12 months.

Mr Wood said: "We currently have a suite of four software packages and are working on six more new products which will start to filter on to the market later this year.

"We're confident this will put us on a solid footing for further expansion in 2012 and beyond."

The company has also just hired its first dedicated US sales executive.

Brad Tolbert, who has seven years' experience in the industry, will be based in energy hub Houston.

Mr Wood added: "We have reached the stage in the States where we need someone there full-time so we can go to the next level of growth.

"Up until 2011 we've focused on using our own in-house sales team with support from a network of agents in a number of international territories.

"We see Brad's involvement as being a key element in our focus to grow the North American market and are looking at appointing additional full-time Sciencesoft sales executives and support staff in other regions in the near future."

Sciencesoft makes 2D and 3D visualisation and analysis software to help predict the best locations for oil reservoirs.

Around 90% of its sales are overseas with its products used in more than 80 countries.
