The company, based in Lerwick, makes a wide range of products including storage containers, navigation lights and tidal machine blades.

It also works on prototype designs and bespoke product requests from other businesses.

The extension will create a temperature controlled area, a clean zone for working with electronics, new office space and a reception area.

It hopes to add two more employees in the coming months.

Fred Gibson from Shetland Composites, said: ??This is a big step for us as up until now most of our work in the marine renewable sector over many years has been in the development of prototype devices. Now finally these projects are scaling up and becoming commercially viable.??
