SSE contributes around £1.47 billion to the Scottish economy, research has found.

The study, conducted by accountancy firm PwC, estimated the supply chain of the business contributed £359m of the overall figure.

Along with that the utility was said supported in the region of 17,730 jobs across the country in its most recent financial year.

The research stated it employed more than 6,400 people in Scotland.

It was suggested spending by direct employees and those working in SSE's supply chain contributed around £178m to Scottish GDP.

Across the UK SSE was said to have contributed £8.8bn to the economy and supported 106,000 jobs.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, chief executive of SSE, said the business was committed to spending between £1.5 billion and £1.7bn in the coming years.
