LUXURY leather goods company Strathberry has beaten expectations on its Kickstarter fundraising drive.

The Edinburgh firm, which makes wallets, bags and gadget covers, had set out to raise £25,000 on the popular crowdfunding platform.

But with its campaign running until Sunday it has already secured in excess of £93,000 and had pledges from more than 400 people who have committed money to buy products at discounted prices.

Guy Hundleby, managing director, said the better than anticipated response to the campaign will allow the business to move forward more quickly with a number of expansion plans.

He said he is in talks with a potential new hire with "excellent" experience in the sector and strong contacts in the key North American market.

Mr Hundleby confirmed the company will "reinvest in raising Strathberry's profile and promotion both in the USA and UK" and is starting to work with a fashion public relations specialist in New York.

Along with that there will be more time spent on boosting the firm's presence on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

The fundraising will also allow for greater development of its range of leather bags, purses and gadget holders with Mr Hundleby promising "new styles, colours and materials".

He added that further "internationalisation" of the main Strathberry website is under consideration.

Strathberry products have been carried by the likes of Paloma Faith, Lily Allen, Amy Macdonald and Helena Christensen. Its bags typically cost between £300 and £400.
