TENNENT Caledonian Breweries, the Glasgow-based producer of Scotland's biggest lager brand, has announced the surprise departure of boss Brian Calder.

Mr Calder took the top job at TCB in March 2014, joining from Wallaces Express after Tennent's owner C&C Group completed its acquisition of the Irvine-based drinks wholesaler.

Now he has been replaced by Alastair Campbell, a former group company director and global brand director at Contiki Holidays, the youth travel company.

TCB said Mr Calder, who had succeeded the Rangers director John Gilligan, had stepped down as planned after delivering the integration of Wallaces Express into C&C Group.
