US cable firms agree on deal

COMCAST has agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for around £27.2 billion in stock, or £95.67 per share, in a deal that will combine America's top two cable TV companies.

The deal is set to close by the end of the year if it is approved by regulators, with the combined entity having around 30 million pay-TV customers.
