THE most northerly UK brewery is targeting greater sales following a £103,000 upgrade.

Valhalla Brewery, on the Shetland island of Unst, has moved to a larger building that will double production capacity and offer the chance to expand into new markets.

There is also a gift shop offering the six real ales brewed on the island.

Sonny Priest, who founded the company with wife Sylvia in 1997, said: "During the summer months, demand usually exceeds supply and the old site was too small for any expansion. We have already starting exploring new markets and it's also very exciting to be opening our new shop."

The development was supported by funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Shetland Islands Council.

HIE development manager David Priest said: "A successful local beer can now become a successful export."
