ABERDEEN healthcare firm Iqarus has expanded its medical solutions offering with the acquisition of Exmed, a specialist in remote medical support, equipment and clinical education.

Iqarus, a specialist in offshore and onshore healthcare and medical solutions, said the acquisition – for an undisclosed sum – would expand its health provision capability into world’s remote and difficult operating environments.

The firm was established last year when chief executive Tim Mitchell led a management buyout of Capita’s Aberdeen-based Energy Medical Services. He said the deal would propel the privately held firm into frontline medical care in some of the world’s most remote and difficult operating environments.

“Our ambition since launching Iqarus has been to rapidly grow into a global provider of health solutions in the world’s difficult and remote environments. The acquisition of Exmed is a major catalyst for our international expansion.”

Exmed’s founding directors Ged Healy and Dai Jones will join Iqarus, along with their head office team of 20 and a pool of highly trained medical contractors.
