TEN Scottish breweries have secured new supply contracts with Asda worth a total of £875,000 over a year.

The supermarket group said that, for the Black Isle, St Andrews, Bellfield, Tempest and Alchemy breweries, the new supply deals represented their first listings with Asda.

Asda noted these breweries had been signed up as suppliers through its relationship with the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland, and that they would together supply 12 new product lines. The Craft Beer Clan was launched by Scottish wholesaler JW Filshill.

The supermarket group said the other five breweries included in the latest supply deals, Deeside, Belhaven, Wooha, Lerwick, and Williams Brothers, had seen their ranges extended.

Together, the fresh supply deals with the 10 breweries bring 25 new product lines to Asda’s shelves in Scotland, the supermarket group noted.

Heather Turnbull, Asda’s buying manager for Scotland, said: “The craft beer culture continues to grow, and it’s clear customers are trading up to more premium beers, particularly ones which come from local brands. The new lines we have launched...will give customers a more local choice.”

Chris Miller, director at the Craft Beer Clan, said: “The Craft Beer Clan works hard to promote Scottish craft beer at home and abroad. The craft brewing sector is renowned for its collaborations, so to be able to bring so many new brand listings to the supermarket stores across Scotland has been a great opportunity as we continue to build on Scotland’s reputation as a world-class producer of drink.”

Asda said the latest supply deals meant its stores across Scotland would now stock more than 100 Scottish beers, ales and ciders.
