Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 3343 sheep forward at their first gimmer and ewe lamb sale at Ayr on Thursday that included 947 store lambs. Scotch Mule gimmers sold to a top of £141 and averaged £113.75 (-£23.70 on the year) for 1085; Scotch Mule ewe lambs to £125 and averaged £82.61 (-£18.53) for 1252; store lambs to £58.20 for Roussin, £57.50 Texel and £57 Suffolk to average £55.94 (-£4.21).
The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 4026 prime lambs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £81 per head and 183p per kg to average 142.6p (-5.5p on the week).
Another large show of 5470 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £139 for Texels and average £72.59 (+38p), while light ewes peaked at £79 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £39.34 (+60p). Rams sold to £148 for a Texel and averaged £91.20.
