Wallets Marts sold 125 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1090 per head and 238.7p per kg to average £785 and 194p, while 112 store bullocks peaked at £1110 and 277p to level at £768 and 189p.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 39 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 225.6p (-0.4p on the week), while 29 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 221p (+11.1p). Five prime bulls sold to 220p and averaged 171.4p (+15.2p).

In the rough ring 86 beef cows averaged 121p (+0.9p) and 8 clean OTM cattle levelled at 167.3p (-5.3p).

The firm also sold 1980 prime lambs to a top of £78 per head and 175.6p per kg to average £65 and 141.2p (-2p).

The 782 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £80 for Texels and average £60, while light ewes peaked at £70 for Cheviots and levelled at £41.

The firm also sold 24 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 234.5p and an average of 194p (-10.8p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 223.5p and levelled at 192p (-4.4p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks averaged 162p (+14.2p). Thirty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 215.5p and averaged 180p (-6.4p), while 26 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 155.5p and levelled at 133.5p (+0.5p).

In the rough ring 151 beef cows averaged 124.8p (+0.8p) and 217 dairy cows levelled at 93.6p (+1.9p). Eight bulls averaged 105.1p (-4p).

The firm also sold 1914 prime lambs to a top of £83.80 and 200p to average 138.4p (-7.2p).

The 362 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £88 for Suffolks and average £58, while light ewes peaked at £64 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £38.68.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1815 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £80 and 160.9p to average 132.1p (-2.9p). The auctioneer reports that lambs were cheaper mainly as a result of the amount of over-fat and very heavy lambs forward, with the overall sale weight average being 46.1kg.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 14 prime heifers to a top of 254p and an average of 237.6p (+4.2p), while 11 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 226p and levelled at 209.8p. (-0.5p). Thirty-five prime, B&W bullocks sold to 148p and averaged 139.4p (-0.6p).

In the rough ring 63 beef cows averaged 120.3p (+1.8p) and 71 dairy cows levelled at 84.1p (-1p).

The firm also sold 2276 prime lambs to a top of £77 and 176.2p to average 141.8p (+0.2p).

The 760 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £104.50 for a Texel and Blackfaces to £49.50.
