United Auctions held their annual show and sale of suckled calves at Stirling on Monday when 730 heifers sold to 372.8p per kg and averaged 244.9p (-£14.38 per head and 14.9p per kg on the year), while 1357 bullocks peaked at 372.9p and levelled at 257.6p (-£16.87 and 17p).

There were also 4775 store and breeding sheep forward. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Beltex to £67 and averaged £61.79 (+£3.09 on the week); Texels £62 and £51.73 (-£2.09); Cheviots £55 and £48.39 (+92p); Mules £55 and £47.05 (-£3.86); Blackfaces £52 and £40.76 (-£1.70).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 22 prime cattle forward at Ayr yesterday when heifers sold to 237p and averaged 219.9p, while bullocks peaked at 207p and levelled at 191.2p.

In the rough ring 99 beef cows averaged 111.9p and 146 dairy cows levelled at 84.1p. Five bulls averaged 108.3p.

The firm also sold 14 dairy cattle to a top of £1450 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and an average of £1230.

Wallets Marts sold 1644 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £70 per head and 170.7p per kg to average 134.1p (-6.6p on the week).
