C&D Auction Marts sold 166 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 354.1p per kg and an average of 187.6p, while 207 store bullocks peaked at 327.9p and levelled at 177.5p. Thirty-one store bulls sold to 255.2p and averaged 220.5p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1481 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £80 per head and 176.2p per kg to average 142.1p (+10.1p on the week).

There were also 594 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £123.50 for a pen of Texels and £49.50 for Blackfaces to average £50.24 overall (-89p).

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 38 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 256p per kg and an average of 223.8p (-2.2p), while 15 prime bullocks peaked at 251p and levelled at 221.3p (+11.4p).

In the rough ring 92 beef cows averaged 114.3p (-5.8p) and 11 clean OTM cattle levelled at 138.5p.

The firm also sold 2274 prime lambs to a top of £79 per head and 170p per kg to average £63 and 141.1p (-3p).

The 638 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for Texels and average £61, while light ewes peaked at £64 for Cheviots and levelled at £38.

The firm also sold 29 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 218.5p and an average of 180.1p (-13.9p), while 25 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 221.5p and levelled at 184.5p (-7.5p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks averaged 141.5p (-20.5p). Forty-six prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 218.5p and averaged 183.8p (+3.7p), while 42 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 165.5p and levelled at 140.5p (+7p).

In the rough ring 151 beef cows averaged 121.1p (-3.7p) and 203 dairy cows levelled at 90.8p (-2.8p). Twelve bulls averaged 108.4p (+3.3p).

There were also 2423 prime lambs that sold to £83.80 and 220p to average 149.1p (+10.7p).

The 203 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £90 for Texels and average £56.12, while light ewes peaked at £63 for Cheviots and levelled at £39.63.
