Market round-up
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 117 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 236.9p per kg and an average of 204.3p (+3.4p on the fortnight), while 116 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 268.3p and levelled at 214.3p (+12.9p). Fifty-four store, B&W bullocks sold to 145.2p and averaged 130.2p, while 10 store bulls peaked at 202.1p and levelled at 200p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold nine prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1406.10 per head and 231p per kg to average £1261.08 and 218.7p.
In the rough ring, 47 beef cows averaged 123.4p and 117 dairy cows levelled at 86.7p. Seven bulls averaged 96.4p.
The firm also had 109 breeding cattle forward at their monthly sale. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £1900 and averaged £1566 for 21; in-calf heifers £1400 and £1260 for 4; bulling heifers £1500 and £1082 for 74; bulls to 3100gns for a Simmental and averaged £2556.75 for 10.
Wallets Marts sold 255 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £89 per head and 194.1p per kg to average £68.50 and 168.6p (+12.6p on the week).
