Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their fortnightly sale of store cattle in St Boswells on Thursday when a fabulous show of 207 graced the ring. Heifers sold to £955 per head and 237.5p per kg to average £733.16 and 202.2p (+1.2p on the fortnight), while bullocks peaked at £1150 and 254.4p to level at £895.05 and 216.1p (-0.4p).
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had another fine show of 4346 prime hoggs in Longtown on Thursday that met a two-tier trade with plainer, more store-types proving harder to cash, while well-fleshed sorts met a similar trade on the week. Top prices on the day were £148 per head and 251p per kg with the overall average levelling at 182.7p (-1.3p on the week), while 144 prime lambs peaked at £100 and 246p to level at 183p (-41p).
There were also 2767 cast sheep forward when heavier, thicker ewes were harder to cash and sold to £146 for Texels to average £84.66 (-£2.41), while light ewes peaked at £80 for Cheviots and levelled at £56.30 (-80p). Rams sold to £150 for a Texel and averaged £104.50.
