Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 513 prime lambs at Ayr on Monday to a top of £105 per head and 220.9p per kg to average 204.1p (+9.1p on the week and up 20.2p on the corresponding sale last year), while an "end-of-season" show of 192 prime hoggs peaked at £93.50 and 176.4p to level at 135.1p (-18.4p on the week).
There were also 540 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £139 for Texels and £68.50 for Blackfaces.
The firm went on to sell ten prime heifers at the same venue yesterday to a top of 230p per kg and an average of 214.6p, while 6 prime bullocks peaked at 215p and levelled at 190.4p.
In the rough ring 49 beef cows averaged 119.6p and 86 dairy cows levelled at 93.6p. Seven bulls averaged 118.2p.
There were also 179 beef-breeding cattle forward at the monthly sale. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2500 and averaged £1730 for 70; cows with calves £2150 and £1520 for 26; bulling heifers £1500 and £1096.48 for 71; bulls to 3000gns for a Simmental and averaged £2028.13 for 12.
