United Auctions sold 585 store heifers at Stirling on Wednesday to a top of 247.4p per kg and an average of 209.7p (-2.3p on the week), while 934 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 254.2p and levelled at 214.2p (-2.2p). One-hundred-and-fifty-four store, B&W bullocks sold to 159p and averaged 142.1p (-1.7p), while 25 store bulls peaked at 234.2p and levelled at 200.8p (no comparison).
In the rough ring 131 beef cows sold to £1370 per head and190p per kg to average 121.9p (-7.9p), while 29 dairy cows peaked at £845 and 130.8p to level at 85.5p (-14.5p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1605 prime lambs in Newton Stewart on Wednesday to a top of £85.50 per head and 187.2p per kg to average 173.5p (-11.5p).
There were also 319 cast sheep forward that were sharper on the week with ewes selling to £89 for Texel crosses and £61.50 for Blackfaces.
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 11 prime heifers in Dumfries on Wednesday to a top of 226.5p and an average of 186.2p.
There were 70 OTM cattle presented in the rough ring when beef cows sold to £1015 and 145p to average 112.1p (-20.5p), while dairy cows peaked at £861 and 105p to level at 86.7p (-4.9p)
The 1067 prime lambs forward sold to £94.50 and 203p to average 175.2p (-11.7p).
A nice show of 577 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £116 for Texels and average £60.81 (-61p), while light ewes peaked at £60.50 for Lleyns and levelled at £36.71 (-£8.46).
The firm also had 8248 store lambs forward in Longtown on Wednesday that included shows and sales of 3573 Hill Cheviots and 1514 Blackfaces. Top prices and averages for selected breeds: Hill Cheviots to £63.50 and averaged £54.46 (+£5.62 on the week); Blackfaces £60 and £42.76 (+£2.51); Suffolks £69 and £60.70 (+£2.70); Texels £80 and £58.21 (+£1); Greyfaces £63.50 and £53.63 (-£1.42).
The firm then went on to sell 2323 prime lambs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £104.50 and 250p to average 187p (-0.3p).
The 4257 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £130 for Texels and average £64.03 (-£3.98), while light ewes peaked at £70 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.70 (+£6.32). Rams sold to £136 for a Texel and averaged £77.77.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 4031 sheep forward at Ayr yesterday. Blackface ewes sold to a top of £86 (twice) and an average of £71.28 (+£8.47 on the year) for 885, while Blackface gimmers peaked at £137 and levelled at £95.37 (-£2.24) for 562. Other leading prices: Blackface ewe lambs to £82, Mule ewe lambs to £106 and Mule gimmers to £141.
