UNITED Auctions held their first sale of suckled calves at Stirling on Monday when 536 heifers sold to 382.8p per kg and averaged 221.9p (-4.5p on the year), while 711 bullocks peaked at 278.3p and levelled at 227.5p (-5.7p).
The firm also had 7322 store lambs and feeding sheep forward. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Beltex to £75 and averaged £66.44 (+£1.58 on the week); Suffolks £66.50 and £64.07 (+£1.98); Texels £71 and £62.78 (-93p); Mules £70 and £56.40 (-85p); Cheviots £63 and £51.85 (-£4.29); Blackfaces £58 and £43.44 (+23p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 15 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 229p per kg and an average of 209p, while three prime bullocks peaked at 225p and levelled at 200.6p. Three prime bulls sold to 180p and averaged 176.4p.
In the rough ring 67 beef cows sold to £990 and 163.6p to average 120.5p, while 136 dairy cows peaked at £900 and 118.4p to level at 87.4p. Thirteen bulls sold to £1170 and 179.7p to average 104.2p.
The firm also sold 14 dairy cattle to a top of £1450 for an HF heifer and an HF cow to average £1102.
