WALLETS marts had a small show of store cattle at their fortnightly sale in Castle Douglas yesterday when 11 heifers sold to £990 per head and averaged £795, while seven bullocks peaked at £1005 and levelled at £965.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1255 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £91 per head and 212.2p per kg to average 172p (+17.1p on the week).
There were also 593 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £100 for Texels and £44 for Blackfaces.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 50 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p per kg and an average of 215.4p (+3.4p), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 241p and levelled at 219p (+1p). Three prime bulls sold to 142p and averaged 125p.
In the rough ring 110 beef cows sold to 207p and averaged 118.4p (-1.6p).
There were also 1,387 prime lambs that sold to £96 and 213p to average 177p (+19p).
The 334 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for Suffolks and average £74, while light ewes peaked at £79 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.
The firm also sold nine prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 229.5p and an average of 200.2p (+15.8p), while 15 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 227.5p and levelled at 193.1p (-3.8p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 191.5p and averaged 167.2p (+21.2p). Twenty-one prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 237.5p and averaged 197.2p (+6.8p), while 39 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 162.2p.
In the rough ring 162 beef cows sold to 188.5p and averaged 108.6p (-6.5p), while 208 dairy cows peaked at 159.5p and levelled at 83.8p (-0.2p). Eleven bulls sold to 138.5p and averaged 96.3p (-19.8p).
There were also 1603 prime lambs that sold to £120 and 273.2p to average 177.8p (+11.5p).
A small show of 49 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £77.50 for Texels and average £59.73, while light ewes peaked at £47.50 for Hill cheviots and levelled at £27.58.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 29 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 209.3p (-4.1p), while 14 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 209.3p (-3.1p). Seventeen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 145.5p and averaged 131.2p (+1p).
In the rough ring 34 beef cows averaged 110.8p (-1.2p) and 48 dairy cows levelled at 79.7p (-4.3p). Three bulls averaged 138.4p.
The firm also sold 1819 prime lambs to a top of £105.50 and 222.5p to average 176.2p (+15.6p).
The 408 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £120.50 for Texels and average £65, while light ewes peaked at £58.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £32.79.
