C&D Auction Marts sold 83 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 244.6p per kg and an average of 188.1p (-5.9p on the fortnight), while 67 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 263.4p and levelled at 204.1p (+2.7p). Ten store, B&W bullocks sold to 163.7p and averaged 139.4p (+17.6p), while 4 store bulls peaked at 250p and levelled at 238.5p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd held their Christmas show and sale at Ayr yesterday when the championship was won by three Beltex from Tormitchell Farms, Girvan that weighed 43kg each and went on to sell for £155 per head or 360.4p per kg. The reserve ticket went to Mr A Templeton, Low Drumclog, Strathven for three 46kg Blackfaces that fetched £125 or 271.7p. The championship for the young farmer's pen of lambs was awarded to Daniel Hodge, Dykes farm, Auchinleck for his Beltex. The 108 show lambs averaged 182.4p.
There were also 1,560 prime lambs not presented for judging that sold to £91 and 200p to average 159.6p (+4.6p on the week).
The 254 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £96 for Texels and £50.50 for Blackfaces.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 62 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 243p and an average of 219.2p (+3.9p), while 32 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 212.9p.
In the rough ring 103 beef cows sold to 215p and averaged 124.8p (+8.2p).
There were also 2,157 prime lambs that sold to £100 and 204.8p to average 166p (+6p).
The 493 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £95 for Texels and average £77, while light ewes peaked at £67 for Cheviots and levelled at £43.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 36 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 231.3p (-16.5p), while 18 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 201.6p (-33.8p). Twenty-one prime, B&W bullocks sold to 144p and averaged 131.2p (+1p).
In the rough ring 42 beef cows averaged 111p (-7p) and 35 dairy cows levelled at 83p (-5p).
The firm also held its Christmas show and sale of prime lambs when the championship was won by Alistair Walker of High Park Farms, Hamilton for three Millenium Blue cross lambs that weighed 47kg and went on to sell for £160 per head or 340.4p per kg. The reserve ticket went to Jim Padkin, Muirhouse for three Beltex that also scaled 47kg and fetched £106. The overall average for the 2,315 lambs sold levelled at 164.3p (+3.7p).
There were also 183 heavy ewes that averaged £69.22 and 116 light ewes that levelled at £38.99.
