The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 114 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday, to a top of 252p per kg and an average of 215.4p (-0.6p on the previous sale), while 200 store bullocks peaked at 287.5p and levelled at 230.4p (+6.1p).
John Swan Ltd sold 54 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday, to a top of 253p and an average of 212.9p (-0.5p), while 33 prime bullocks peaked at 233p and levelled at 209.8p (-8.9p).
In the rough ring 36 beef-type OTM cattle averaged 155.7p (+24.4p). The firm also sold 2105 prime hoggs to a top of £120 per head and 243.1p per kg to average 208.9p (-1.5p) There were 620 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £140 for Texels and averaged £72.37, while light ewes peaked at £97 for Cheviots and levelled at £65.40.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 13 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 214.5p and an average of 184.5p (-7.3p), while 16 prime bullocks also peaked at 214.5p and levelled at 196.9p (+2.1p). Thirty-six prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 217.5p and averaged 178.7p (-1.4p), while 50 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 178.5p and levelled at 148.8p (-0.7p).
In the rough ring 83 beef cows averaged 140.3p (+1.2p), and 175 dairy cows levelled at 108.4p (+0.2p). Ten bulls averaged 128.5p (+2.9p).
The firm also sold 1550 prime hoggs to a top of £112.80 and 284p to average 213.6p (-3.7p). The 172 cast sheep forward were topped by Texel ewes at £112.50.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1969 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £111 and 231.8p to average 200.5p (-1.6p).
The 376 cast sheep forward were substantially dearer on the week, with ewes selling to £127 for Texels and £77.50 for Blackfaces.
Lawrie and Symington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 260p and an average of 213p (-5.2p), while 14 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 241p and levelled at 212.8p (+5.2p). Thirteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 168p and averaged 156p (+0.8p).
In the rough ring 31 beef cows averaged 128p (+0.4p) and 16 dairy cows levelled at 105p (+10p). Eight OTM cattle averaged 111p.
The firm also sold 3241 prime hoggs to a top of £118.50 and 233.8p to average 203.2p (-5.8p).
The 447 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £149.50 for Texels and £102.50 for Blackfaces to average £72.53 overall (+£12.57).
