The boards of Barony, Elmwood and Oatridge Colleges, and SAC (Scottish Agricultural College) have announced their formal agreement to merge.
The new merged College will be titled SRUC (Scotland's Rural University College) and will come into existence on August 1, 2012, following approval by the Cabinet Secretary.
The college partners have appointed SAC's chief executive and principal, Professor Bob Webb, as chief executive and principal of SRUC.
A shadow board, with representatives from all the colleges, is now being established to drive progress and action ahead of August1, when the new SRUC board, chaired by Lord Jamie Lindsay, will assume responsibility.
George Lyon MEP has warned that European Council and Parliament negotiations, which threaten to limit the top speed of functional All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) to 40kph, will dramatically reduce their effectiveness when used for daily stock work on farms.
Lawrie & Symington sold 122 store bullocks in Lanark on Tuesday, to a top of 254.3p per kg and an average of 223.3p, while 202 store heifers peaked at 233.9p and levelled at 210.5p.
Craig Wilson sold 14 prime beef-bullocks at Ayr on Tuesday, to a top of 222p and an average of 204.8p, while a prime B&W bullock made 164.5p. Six prime beef- heifers sold to 219p and averaged 204.5p, while four prime B&W heifers levelled at 130.7p.
In the rough ring, 89 beef cows averaged 149.7p, while 74 dairy cows levelled at 115.3p. Four bulls averaged 152.3p.
A small show of six dairy cattle was topped by a Holstein Friesian heifer at £2200, followed by others at £1900 and £1750.
The firm went on to sell 660 prime lambs in Newton Stewart yesterday to a top of £98 per head and 207.1p per kg, to average 190.7p, while 84 prime hoggs levelled at 158.5p.
The 167 cast sheep forward were topped by a SuffolkX ram at £104.50, while ewes sold to £89 for Texels and £65.50 for Blackfaces.
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers' Mart had 40 prime cattle forward in Dumfries yesterday, when bullocks sold to 220.5p and averaged 203.4p, while heifers peaked at 216p and levelled at 208.8p.
Ten young, dairy-bred bulls averaged 161.8p.
There were 47 OTM cattle in the rough ring, with beef cows averaging 142.8p, while dairy cows levelled at 107.4p.
In the sheep ring 152 prime lambs sold to £87 per head and 192p per kg to average 184p, while 142 prime hoggs levelled at 143p.
The 322 cast sheep forward were easier on the week with heavy ewes selling to £111.50 for Texels and averaging £82.50, while light ewes peaked at £80.50 for Lleyns and levelled at £61.40.
