United Auctions sold 129 pedigree Simmental bulls at Stirling on Monday to a top of 12,000gns (twice). The first leading bid was for the overall male champion from HC Stubbs, Derrycallaghan, County Fermanagh followed by the second for one from WJ&J Green, Coskie.

Other leading prices: 10,500gns for H MacAskill, Woodhall; 10,000gns (thrice) first for WH Robson & Sons, Kilbride, then WJ&J Green, Corskie, and finally for A King, Wolfstar.

The final overall average levelled at £4964 (-£303 on the year for an 80% clearance).

There were also 13 pedigree Saler bulls sold to a top of 5,800gns and an average of £3950.

The firm went on to sell 136 pedigree Charolais bulls at the same venue yesterday to a top of 18,000gns for one from R Mack, Clyth Mains, Lybster, Caithness to average £6821 (+£283 for a 76% clearance).

Other leading prices: 16,000gns (twice) for B McAllister, Parkgate, Co. Antrim and Messrs Curry, Low Burradon, Morpeth; 14,000gns for NF Massie & Son, Blelack, Dinnet, Aboyne; 12,000gns (twice) for the overall champion from H Goldie, South Bowerhouse, Ruthwell, Dumfries and then for Alan Lawson, South Farm, Hallington. In addition there were four 11,000gns bids and another at 10,500gns,

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had a small show of prime cattle at Ayr yesterday when trade was firmer due to numbers being short of buyers' requirements. Five heifers sold to a top of £1345.50 per head and 236p per kg to average £1217.73, while a prime bullocks fetched £1149.95 or 211p.

In the rough ring 42 beef cows averaged 136.8p and 77 dairy cows levelled at 104.4p. Eight bulls averaged 145.2p and 7 clean OTM cattle levelled at 167p.

The firm also sold 13 dairy cattle to a top of £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and an average of £1495.

Wallets Marts sold 923 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £94 per head and 223.8p per kg to average 190.9p (-2p on the week).

The 284 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £105 for Texels, £94 for Mules and £89 for Blackfaces.
