Wallets Marts sold 267 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £94.50 per head and 204.5p per kg to average 190.1p (+0.5p on the week).

A small show of 85 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £147 for Texels, £113 for Mules and £92 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 20 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1316.75 per head and 229p per kg to average £1083.49 and 204.7p, while 5 prime bullocks peaked at £1287.80 and 227p to level at £1232.52 and 208.2p.

Trade in the rough ring was dearer again on the week with 20 beef cows averaging 134.6p and 123 dairy cows levelling at 101.5p. Ten bulls averaged 107.8p and 12 clean OTM cattle levelled at 140.5p.

There were 16 calved dairy cattle forward that sold to £1450 for an Ayrshire cow and averaged £1292.50 (+£30.84 on the week).

The firm also sold 80 B&W grass-calving cows, heifers and heifer stirks. Top prices and averages: In-calf cows to £1500 and averaged £780.94 for 32; in-calf heifers £1450 and £966.92 for 13; heifer stirks £840 and £619.43 for 35.
