JOHN Swan Ltd sold 55 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 232p per kg and an average of 199.1p (-10p on the week), while 40 prime bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 205.6p (-2p).
In the rough ring 55 beef-type cattle averaged 125.3p (+5.3p). The firm also sold 2068 prime lambs to a top of £96 per head and 202p per kg to average 182p (-1p).
The 477 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £109 for Texels and average £62 (-£21.43), while light ewes peaked at £75 for GF and levelled at £55 (-£11.70).
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 226.5p and an average of 186.1p (+4p), while 17 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 223.5p and levelled at 198.3p (+3.1p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 149.5p and averaged 141.7p (+12.7p).
Twenty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 193.5p and averaged 165.7p (+0.1p), while 41 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 163.5p and levelled at 136.6p (+6.6p).
In the rough ring 115 beef cows averaged 128.5p (+2.7p) and 110 dairy cows levelled at 104.1p (+4.6p). Six bulls averaged 126.8p (+8.9p).
The firm also sold 2046 prime lambs to a top of £107.20 and 251.40p to average 196.6p (+11.8p). The 193 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £106.80 for Texels and £76.80 for Hill Cheviots.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2114 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £90 and 208.3p to average 172p (-4.3p).
The firm also had 532 cast sheep forward when better-fleshed continental ewes and Blackfaces maintained recent rates, but Mule ewes were cheaper. Rams sold to £134 for Texels, while ewes peaked at £117 for Texels and £67 for Blackfaces.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 237p and an average of 206.9p (-10.2p), while 8 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224p and levelled at 195.7p (-8.1p). Fifteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 153p and averaged 136p (-7.6p). In the rough ring 23 beef cows averaged 126p (-9p) and 25 dairy cows levelled at 90p (+4p). Three bulls averaged 111p and 12 OTM cattle levelled at 112p. The firm also sold 2402 prime lambs to a top of £92 and 209.3p to average 176.7p (+0.8p).
The 618 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £126.50 for Texels and £73.50 for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at £58.28 (-£4.65).
Wallets Marts sold 20 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of 203.7p and an average of 184p, while 17 store bullocks peaked at 215.3p and levelled at 211.5p.
In the rough ring 31 cows averaged 119.4p.
