United Auctions had a catalogued entry of 8773 at their annual sale of Blackface breeding sheep at Stirling on Monday when a centre record of £700 per head was set by a pen of 24 BF draft ewes from E McMillan, Lurg.
BF ewes averaged £73.65 (+£5.24 on the year). Accredited BF gimmers sold to £620 for 10 from Dalchirla and averaged £156.23 (+£44).
Wallets Marts sold 1653 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £80 per head and 183.8p per kg to average 154.7p (-0.5p on the week).
There were also 343 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £86 for Texels and £48 for Blackfaces.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime cattle at Ayr yesterday to a top of 237p per kg and an average of 222.1p, while 3 prime bullocks levelled at 199.4p. Four prime bulls averaged 183.1p. In the rough ring 89 beef cows averaged 118.4p and 160 dairy cows levelled at 87.6p. Twelve bulls averaged 109.5p and 21 clean cattle levelled at 171.2p.
The firm also had 121 beef-breeding cattle forward. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calves-at-foot to £2450 and averaged £1663.97 for 60; cows and calves £1750 and £1314.82 for 27; bulling heifers £1140 and £922.66 for 32.
