Wallets Marts had 116 store cattle forward in Castle Douglas on Monday when heifers sold to 250.9p per kg and averaged 190.8p.
Bullocks peaked at 239.9p and levelled at 195p. There were 164 head of beef-breeding cattle forward. A special feature of the sale was the reduction of the Upper Ardmannoch beef herd when 54 cows and calves sold to £1900 for an AAX cow with her AAX heifer calf and averaged £1332.59. Craig Wilson Ltd sold 13 prime beef heifers at Ayr yesterday to 226p and an average of 217.6p, while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 213p and levelled at 204.7p. Five prime young bulls sold to 173p and averaged 166.4p.
In the rough ring 118 beef cows averaged 110.4p and 159 dairy cows levelled at 78.9p. Eight bulls averaged 98.1p and 27 clean OTM cattle levelled at 158.9p. The firm also had 37 head forward at the November Friesian sale. Top prices and averages: Pedigree heifers and cows to 3450 gns for the champion, a heifer from Messrs Agnew, West Dhulloch and averaged 1950gns for 15; Ayrshire heifers £1750gns and 1450gns for 4; commercial dairy cattle £2000 and £1488.46 for 14.
