SCOTLAND's oil and gas expertise is in strong demand around the world amid a challenging period for the global industry, research has found.

In a survey of more than 260 industry leaders around the world for Scottish Enterprise, 74 per cent of respondents said they preferred working with Scottish suppliers. The development agency said the same percentage believe Scotland is a leading training ground for the industry. Some 71 per cent of respondents see Scottish employees as among the most dependable in the sector. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "This poll comes at a time of change for the global energy sector. Turbulence in the oil markets is leading to some uncertainty about future work flows, but these results reinforce the value that Scottish businesses deliver to partners, particularly in deepwater and offshore exploration areas." She added: "Decades of innovation, cultivated in the North Sea, are being deployed globally and transferred to new and emerging exploration and production locations around the world, including West Africa." The study was completed in September three months after oil prices went into reverse following a long boom.
