Steel firm gets new boss
Watson Towers, the steel plate processor, has appointed Mark Allard as its new managing director, a role he has pledged to fulfill by taking the company to a world class level.
Mr Allard has spent his working life in the Scottish steel industry. He is the former managing director of Eterniti Steels Scotland, a steel plate processing business he helped set up in 2009, and ran successfully for three years, until it was taken over by global giants, Edgen Murray, where he has been UK and Export Sales Director for the last four years.
He said: “I was really surprised, and impressed when I saw first-hand the size and the huge capabilities Watson Towers have and also their desire to grow and to succeed.
Calling Watson Towers “a huge sleeping giant”, he said his goal is for the business to continue to evolve and to become “the biggest, and the very best at what we do in the country”.
He added: “I believe we can take the business on to a world class level and become a huge force to be reckoned with across many sectors.”
Watson Towers director, Fraser Towers said: “We are delighted to welcome Mark on board. He brings a wealth of experience of the Scottish steel industry to his new post and has the drive and enthusiasm to make a real difference”.
ISG expands MD remit
CONSTUCTION group ISG has promoted its Scotland managing director, Andy McLinden, to the newly created post of managing director for Scotland and Northern England.
The expanded role gives Mr McLinden the remit to manage the contractor’s Manchester, Liverpool and Bradford offices.
From a standing start in 2010, the ISG Scotland now turns over £60 million and employs more than 80 staff at its Buchanan Business Park headquarters in Glasgow.
As one of the founding team, McLinden has been instrumental in the company’s growth trajectory.
He said: “This is a really exciting moment for the business as we bring together the capabilities of the Scottish and Northern construction businesses and provide a seamless service to customers across the north of the UK.
“We have an excellent pool of talented professionals in our enlarged business and there is real strength and depth in the diversity of our people and on their focus to deliver outstanding customer experiences.”
Meltwater names Edinburgh MD
GLOBAL media intelligence company Meltwater has named Paul Williams managing director of its Edinburgh office. He takes over the role from Michelle Robinson, as she heads off on maternity leave.
Mr Williams, who originally joined the Cardiff office in 2010 after reading for a masters in medical law and philosophy from Lancaster University, started as a consultant and moved into management in 2013.
He commented: “I chose Meltwater as a graduate because I wanted to be part of a business where progression and development could go as quickly as my drive dictated.”
Gregg Hollister, area director UK & Ireland, Meltwater said: “Paul has always been one of our rising stars and we are really pleased to offer him this opportunity to take the helm in Edinburgh and continue to develop what is already a successful and dynamic team.”
Surveyor makes key appointment
SHEPHERD Chartered Surveyors has appointed Moira Walker as head of its rating department throughout Scotland.
Based in the firm’s Glasgow office she will provide rating consultancy advice to both private and public sector clients with responsibility for the daily rating management of their portfolios.
A graduate of Strathclyde University with a Post Graduate Diploma in Urban Property Appraisal from the University of Paisley, Ms Walker has more than 20 years’ experience in rating consultancy.
Ms Walker said: “With extensive experience of managing a large number of varied rating instructions, I am greatly looking forward to managing the rating administration for Shepherd’s clients.”
Welcoming Ms Walker to the firm, Steve Barnett, managing partner at Shepherd, said: “Moira has a hard-earned reputation within the surveying profession as an expert in valuation for rating and, as such, we are very pleased to welcome her to the firm.”
The next rating revaluation is in April 2017 and local authorities will shortly be issuing valuation notices to all landlords.
