Jacob de Tusch-Lec of Artemis has returned to the top of the Scottish fund manager performance league for the three years to March 31, overtaking previous month's leader David Gait of First State, as equity managers dominated the table.

Mr de Tusch-Lec, who topped the leaderboard for three consecutive months in 2014 and has maintained a top 10 ranking since, was the highest-ranked manager working for houses with a significant Scottish presence in the latest Citywire table. He was ranked 101 overall in the rankings of 3439 European fund managers, which include 103 with Scottish links, a rise of 10 from the previous month.

Mr de Tusch-Lec manages the Global Income and Monthly Distribution funds for Artemis, and is one of seven Scottish-linked managers to achieve the prized AAA rating from Citywire for three-year performance.

The global income fund aims to achieve a rising income combined with capital growth from a wide range of investments, investing mainly in global equities. Mr de Tusch-Lec joined Artemis in 2005 and has been manager since July 2010, while the fund has returned 84.3per cent over three years against 53.3per cent for the sector, according to Trustnet figures.

He swaps places with Mr Gait, who slips to second place in the Scottish table after two months out in front with a ranking down from 87 to 122. Mr Gait's equity funds at First State cover Asia Pacific, India, emerging markets and a worldwide sustainability mandate.

The other AAA ratings are claimed by five familiar strong performers, led by Audrey Ryan at Kames Capital, up from 144 to 139, who hangs onto third place for her record at the UK Opportunities, Ethical Equity and Ethical Cautious Managed funds.

There are 20 managers with AA ratings including three former SWIP managers now part of Aberdeen - Roger Webb, Luke Hickmore and Lyndon Gill. Artemis has seven of its 11 rated managers in the top two categories.

Standard Life Investments' Thomas Moore and Edward Legget, co-managers of the UK Equity Income Unconstrained fund, and Colette Conboy, International Trust manager, take three of the seven AAA ratings. All improved their overall positions from the end of February table, with Mr Moore now at 151, Mr Legget at 219 and Ms Conboy at 299.

After three successive months where the same managers kept a stranglehold on the top 10 places, there are two gatecrashers this time around, led by Mr de Tusch-Lec's colleague at Artemis Peter Saacke who manages European and global growth funds. He takes up eighth place with a ranking up from 652 to 351, and is followed by Baillie Gifford's Japanese specialist Matthew Brett, up from 516 to 379. Mr Brett's co-manager Sarah Whitley is just outside the top 10 with a ranking up from 555 to 417, just behind Colin Morton who manages four UK equity funds at Franklin Templeton.

In the table of houses with Citywire-rated managers, Franklin Templeton extends its lead with an increase from 22 to 23, while SLI reverses the previous month's loss by moving from 15 to 17. Baillie Gifford jumps from 12 to 15 and Kames from seven to nine. The other strong showings are First State with five and SVM with four.

Among the newcomers to the rankings are Robin Weir and Dale Robertson at Edinburgh Partners, and Rurairidh Stewart at Martin Currie.
