Allan Watt, son of a Lanarkshire farmer, opened a drapery business during the late 19th century to supplement the family's income.

The early part of the century saw the venture, selling primarily lace and ribbon, open up on Elmbank Street in Glasgow.

In 1915 the Watt Brothers limited company was formed and it moved into its store on the corner of Hope Street and Sauchiehall Street specialising in high end ladieswear.

The success of the store saw it extended to six floors in 1929.

Allan Watt died in 1939 at the age of 73 with his son William taking over the business.

During the 1950s the business extended its product range into bridalwear and opened a second outlet in the suburb of Clarkston.

Current owner Willie Watt, grandson of the founder, formally joined the business in 1982 as a teenager before being appointed as managing director in 1993.

It now trades from eight locations and sells a wide variety of products.

Outside of work Mr Watt, a father-of-two, is a keen boxer, runner and until recently took part in motorcross.
