BROADCASTER STV has created 26 new jobs for the launch of its new city television channel for Glasgow.

The company said the service will start operating in the evening of June 2 and reach up to two million viewers in the west of Scotland.

It will be shown on Freeview channel 26 and typically broadcast from noon until midnight featuring a mixture of news and features as well as archive and new programmes.

A live magazine show, called The Riverside Show, to be fronted by former Miss Scotland Jennifer Reoch and Clyde presenter David Farrell, will run on weeknights from 6.30pm-8.30pm.Former ITV Daybreak producer Gerry Cassidy has relocated from London to Glasgow to become The Riverside Show's senior producer.

Paul Hughes, channel editor for STV Glasgow, said: "This is a hugely exciting opportunity to launch a brand new channel for Scotland's largest city.

"We want to celebrate everything that's great about Glasgow and reflect what is happening in this truly unique city each day."

The venture is being done in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University with students getting experience of working in a live broadcast environment.

A channel for Edinburgh, run with support from Edinburgh Napier University, is scheduled to launch later this year.

Ofcom awarded the licences for the local television services to STV in January 2013.
